Eggs Benedict at the Bread and Bean café
Another attempt to find the best Eggs Benedict outside of New Zealand proved more successful at a fairly new and very friendly café in Archway.
The Bread and Bean café’s presentation was so very nearly perfect, I thought the photo deserved a frame.
It tasted pretty perfect too, the eggs nice and runny, the ham lean and tasty, and the Hollandaise just right.
My Americano espresso was good and strong, using one of my favourite roasters Union Coffee.
Mrs Y had a very tasty alternative called shakshuka, apparently an Israeli recipe, and possibly a variation on a Persian dish. Essentially, poached eggs in a very flavoursome tomato and pepper sauce. Quite what created the wonderful taste deserves investigation. Mrs Y is thinking coriander. I’m going for cumin as well.
As for the search for the best Eggs Benedict outside New Zealand, I think we’ve found a worthy contender in this cosy café in Archway, north London.
I was pleased to discover that they not only use free-range eggs but also organic meat “produced from animals that have been reared in free-range environments” (from the Rare Breed Meat Company). This makes this café a true gem.
